An Ode to Fedora 8

Since the advent of Fedora 8, Ubuntu 7.10, I've been constantly changing my platform. None of them worked perfectly and my most-read posts are actually problems and fixes to those systems.

In the Ubuntu series, 7.10 has similar performance but fixed many things compared to 7.04 and added desktop effects. Fedora 8 starts faster and installs with many more packages at first install (I know you can add software in Ubuntu etc. But I think most people prefer getting it done one hit.) which beats Ubuntu.

In its own clan, Fedora 7 appeared to me to be transitional. It fixed a certain number of problems but I don't see much improvement. It's much better than Redhat Enterprise Linux which I had a chance to use because after much effort, wireless won't work with school WIFI... It even worked with Fedora 6. And I won't bother like having a tech guy come and fix it (Some of them know as much as I do or even less and I cannot bear their reckless way of using your computer. If you are to get your computer fixed, put it there and go. Or you'll cry.)

KDE in Fedora 8 is crappy. Gnome is non-outstanding (If you tend to yell at me at this point, read my reasons.). But you know, we're grown-ups, no news is good news probably. And I like the tech saying: new is not good, at least 99% of the times. I think it's kind of true.
